IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE JUST ONE, WHO WOULD BE YOUR CHOICE? Erikssen or Coutinho?
By Moshood Akinleye
One of the most important parts of the football field that holds
the prime influence to a team’s success or the otherwise is the midfield, and
to have a good midfield, you must think ‘the round peg and the round hole’ philosophy
as a Manager.
In the English Premier League, I believe it will be fair enough to
say that Christian Eriksen and Philippe Coutinho are doubtedly two of the best
midfielders in the league presently.
The influence of both players in the
success of their teams validates this.
Short About Christian Eriksen
Christian
Dannemann Eriksen (born 14
February 1992) is a Danish footballer who
plays for English club Tottenham Hotspur and the Denmark national
team as an attacking midfielder. He made
his debut for the Denmark national
team in March
2010, and was the youngest player of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South
Africa.
In 2011,
Eriksen was named Danish Football
Player of the Year, Dutch Football Talent of the Year, Ajax Talent of the Year(Marco van Basten Award),
and made the UEFA Euro U-21 Team
of the Tournament.[5] He won
the Eredivisie with Ajax in2010–11, 2011–12, and in 2012–13 before
signing with Tottenham Hotspur in August 2013. He won the Tottenham Hotspur
Player of the Year award for the 2013–14 season and in 2015, he won the Danish Football
Player of the Year award
for the second year in a row.
Short About Philippe Coutinho
Philippe
Coutinho Correia (Brazilian
Portuguese born 12 June 1992), known as Philippe
Coutinho, or simply Coutinho, is a Brazilian professional footballer who
plays for English club Liverpool and the Brazil national team as an attacking midfielder or winger.
He began
his club career at Vasco da Gama in
Brazil before moving to Inter Milan in
Italy, who loaned him to Spanish side Espanyol in 2012.
In January 2013, he was signed by English Premier League club
Liverpool for £8.5 million. His vision, passing, dribbling and long-range
strikes have earned him the nickname Little
Magician by Liverpool fans
and teammates. Brazilian great Pelé tipped
Coutinho for a "great future", after
he was named in the 2015 PFA Team of the Year.
At the
age of 18, Coutinho made his senior international debut for Brazil in 2010. He
represented the nation at the 2015 Copa América.
The Mesh.
But come to think of it, if you have a good team already made, but
with one more player left to complete the cycle; and you have the opportunity
to choose between Liverpool and Brazilian star, Philippe Coutinho or the Danish
and Tottenham Playmaker, Christian Eriksen, who would you add to your team?
Both Coutinho and Eriksen have established themselves as a key
player in their respective clubs, scoring important goals and assisting many
others. You will recall that Coutinho was part of the PFA team of the 2014/2015
season. He was the only Liverpool player to make the team. Coutinho is skilful
and creative with the ball that you wouldn’t doubt his capabilities playing
with the greatest player of this world except when his form “goes on period”,
he has a “legful” of passes, long and short ones, and he has an eye for goals. He
is known for his rocket shots that in most cases save his team, Liverpool from
sharing points with the opponent team.
For Eriksen, even though he couldn’t make the PFA team, he was the
Tottenham player of the 2014/2015 season, he also won the Dannish player of the
year back to back, 2014 and 2015. Eriksen is also skilful, brilliant with
passes and very creative with the ball. He also has an eye for goals, but
Eriksen has one thing different from Coutinho. The Danish is becoming a master
of free-kicks in recent times. He, along with premier league’s Gilfy Siggurdson
and Willian have scored more than they have lost in their last 10 attempts on
free kicks, Cristiano Ronaldo has not found the back of the net in his last 90
attempts.
So, with this statistics, who would you add to your one man short team,
Coutinho or Eriksen.
