The general secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Mohammed Sanusi, told Goal that the Flamingoes will be camped in Abuja for preparation ahead of their first round qualifier tie by early January.
The NFF scribe said coach Bala Nkiyu will lead the Flamingoes for the upcoming World Cup in Jordan despite his last misadventure in Costa Rica last year. "We are will begin preparation as soon as possible, though we are drawn bye in preliminary stage," Sanusi told Goal.
"The team (Flamingoes) will reopen camp on Sunday (November 29) in Abuja. The previous coaching crew will still remain intact," he said. The Flamingoes have been drawn bye in the African qualifying series for the Fifa U17 Women's World Cup which hold commences this weekend with the preliminary stage.
In the opening round, Botswana and Namibia will meet in the first leg this weekend and second leg in a forthnight. The winner will face Nigeria U17 women in the first round in January.
Nigeria are seeking to participate at the 5th edition of the women's youth football championship to be held in Jordan from 30 September to 21 October 2016. After the Flamingoes under the watch of Bala Nkiyu crashed out at the quarter final stage in 2014 following a humiliating 3-0 loss to Spain, they will aim for a better outing this time as the team have never gone beyond the quarter final stage.
The FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup is an international association football tournament for female players under the age of 17. It is organized by Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). The tournament is held in even-numbered years, starting in 2008. The 2016 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup will be the 5th edition of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, the biennial international women's youth football championship contested by the under-17 national teams of the member associations of FIFA. The tournament will be held in Jordan from 30 September to 21 October 2016.
