'HOME EAGLES' START PREPARATION FOR RWANDA

The 2016 African Nations Championship (also referred to as CHAN 2016) will be the 4th edition of the African Nations Championship, the biennial international football championship organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the men's national teams of Africa featuring exclusively players from their respective national leagues. The tournament will be held in Rwanda between 16 January and 7 February 2016.[1] A total of 16 teams will play in the tournament.

The Home Eagles equally coached by Sunday Oliseh will be making their second appearance in the competition having made a debut appearance at the 2014 edition staged in South Africa where they finished as bronze medal winners. Oliseh’s men will battle Niger Republic, Tunisia and Guinea in Group C at the Stade Regional Nyamirambo, Kigali in their quest to emerge as winners.

In preparation for the tournament, camp resumes on December 14, 2015 at the Bolton White Apartment in Abuja. Consequently, a list has been released by Oliseh and topping the list are regular suspects, Gbolahan Salami, Paul Onobi, Chima Akas and goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa. Others are Ezekiel Bassey, Tunde Adeniji, Ifeanyi Mathew, Paul Aggrey and Chisom Chikatara.

In a related development, it was gathered that in a bid to get the best and a fully fit squad for the African Nations Championship (CHAN), Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has sent out a detailed training programme to all invited players. This much was reportedly revealed by a top official in the Nigerian Football Federation.

“Oliseh is a core professional and I was happy to know he has sent out various training programmes to the players expected to be invited to camp, this is a new trend in our football and wherever the players are they know the plan and they must stay fit and be ready for the challenge.” The statement contained.

‎It will be recalled that the Eagles qualified for the competition following a 2-0 aggregate win against Burkina Faso and the draw for the final tournament of the competition took place on 15 November 2015 (brought forward from 18 November), 18:30 CAT (UTC+2), in Kigali, Rwanda. The 16 teams were drawn into four groups of four. The teams were seeded based on their results in the three most recent final tournaments: 2009 (multiplied by 1), 2011 (multiplied by 2), and 2014 (multiplied by 3).

The Super Eagles kick-starts their campaign on the 18th of January against Niger.
