After two rounds of matches, hosts Senegal stand tall in group A with six points from two matches after defeating Tunisia 2-0. In the same group, Zambia booked an early flight home after the group stage with their second consecutive loss in the tournament.
Only Senegal appear to be home and dry, their last group match is a mere formality not only because they are on six points but also because they have a better head to head record against the other two teams currently on three points. More interestingly, the hosts will be meeting the whooping boys of the group, Zambia as Tunisia and South Africa hope to cancel each other out.
In group B, Dream team VI remains in contention for a semi final place after a disappointing 2-2 raw against the Egyptians as Algeria sent the Malians home with a 2-0 defeat.
Nigeria and Egypt could have met at the 2015 All African Games in Brazzaville but the Pharaohs pulled out of the competition. While the Egyptians still lick their wounds following Oussama Chita’s equaliser that denied them a win against Algeria despite taking the lead through Mahomoud Soliman, Nigeria got a hard earned 3-2 success over Mali. All three teams can still qualify though.
