NIGERIA'S FORWARD FOCUS

Ahmed Musa and the in-form Roman Eremenko were on target as CSKA Moscow remain as leaders of the Russian topflight log with a  2-0 victory over 10-man Krasnodar on Monday.
The Nigerian international fired Leonid Slutsky's side ahead within 17 minutes at the CSKA Moscow Stadium.
And it got better in the second half when Eremenko doubled the lead to effectively end the game as a contest.
However, Ricardo Larbode’s dismissal for a second yellow card in the closing stages of the game ensured the visitors went home without getting a consolation goal.
He was replaced with Sergey Tkachev in the 90th minute of the encounter.

Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw at the Liberty Stadium, with Kelechi Iheanacho earning himself a start for City and justifying the manager’s faith by netting after just five minutes. In his parting press conference, Manuel Pellegrini tipped the young striker to become an asset for the Citizens if he continues to improve on his performances. The forward ended the campaign with 14 goals to his name, with eight of those strikes coming in the Premier League, a feat many strikers will look on with envy. Kelechi Iheanacho has expressed his disappointment at Manuel Pellegrini's departure from Manchester City, hailing him as a 'special manager'.

Lazio finished the season in eighth place after a 4-2 thumping by Fiorentina on the final day of the Serie A campaign. Ogenyi Onazi started for the Rome-based outfit, but struggled to produce the goods and was eventually replaced in the 84th minute. A top-half finish will give manager Simone Inzaghi a solid foundation to build on next season if he can keep his players together...but how long have we been saying that about Lazio?!

Torino ended their Serie A campaign with a 2-1 loss to Empoli on Sunday evening. Joel Obi bagged his first league goal of the season in the 54th minute, but it wasn't enough, as Empoli claimed the three points at the Stadio Carlo Castellani. Obi has made 10 appearances in the Italian top flight for Torino this term, and will be hoping to feature more prominently in the 2016-2017 campaign.

Moses Simon has had a poor strike rate of late, with only one goal in 10 appearances to his name. Nevertheless, Gent are assured of a Europa League spot and are not showing any signs of relinquishing their handle on third place in the Belgian play-offs. The 20-year-old was brought on with only 13 minutes to spare against Zulte-Waregem and the scores drawn level at 2-2, but could do little as the home side won the encounter in dramatic fashion, with two late goals.

Werder Bremen escaped relegation in a dramatic end to the season with a 1-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Anthony Ujah has scored 11 goals in 32 appearances this term, and will look to improve on those numbers next season. Bremen were staring down the barrel of relegation, but a last-gasp goal in the 88th minute, which Ujah provided the assist for, was enough to secure top-flight football next season.

Watford fought back to hold Sunderland to a 2-2 draw at Vicarage Road. Odion Ighalo finished the season with 15 Premier League goals to his name, five shy of the 20-goal haul he scored in the Championship last term. The Nigerian striker was unable to find the back of the net yet again, but his efforts ensured that the Hornets finish comfortably in 13th position on the log.

After taking an early lead, West Ham United succumbed to two second-half goals to lose 2-1 to Stoke City on Sunday. Emmanuel Emenike was introduced in the second half in a bid to add some width to a struggling Hammers side, but his efforts proved insufficient. Emenike has enjoyed a decent loan spell at Upton Park, but it remains to be seen if Slaven Bilic will renew the Nigerian attacker’s contract. Victor Moses was also brought on late in the second half after West Ham conceded two goals in quick succession to turn the tie on its head. The Hammers suffered a loss to Stoke City in the final game of the season, seeing them miss out on a European spot with a seventh-place finish. Expect Moses to return to Chelsea after an underwhelming loan spell across the capital.
