MIXED FORTUNES AS NIGERIAN GLO LEAGUE ENDS

Glo Premier League champions, Enyimba, denied Sunshine Stars a continental ticket after holding them to a 0-0 draw at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Sunday. The People's Elephant who secured their seventh Glo Premier League title after a goalless draw against Warri Wolves last weekend were presented with their trophy on Sunday after the draw.

The champions put up a lively display in the encounter, although they had to rely on their goalkeeper Femi Thomas to keep the hosts at bay on a couple of occasions. The hosts failed to convert a host of goalscoring chances that came their way in the first half, while last season’s top scorer, Mfon Udoh, also came close to getting a goal late in the first half.

In a related development Nasarawa secured third position and a berth in the CAF Confederation Cup courtesy of a 2-0 win against Giwa FC in Lafia. Giwa FC players failed to show up for the second half after they had two men sent off in the first half.

In Umuahia, Sharks failed to maintain their top flight status after they went down 1-0 against Abia Warriors. Olaha Micheal scored the winning goal nine minutes from time. At the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan Dolphins secured a hard fought 2-2 draw against Shooting Stars to beat the drop. Tope Orelope put the hosts ahead in the 21st minute, while Dolphins rallied back through a brace from Ifeanyi Egwim. Cletus Itodo however salvaged a point for 3SC by grabbing the equaliser in added time.Akwa United beat Lobi Stars 1-0 in a dress rehearsal of the Federation Cup final in Makurdi.

Abdulafeez Awakan got the winner in the 30th minute. Wikki Tourists ended their season on a high by edging Kano Pillars 2-0 in Bauchi. Osas Okoro grabbed a brace as Rangers came from a goal down to beat Bayelsa United 3-1 at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, Enugu. Kwara United ended their campaign in the top flight on a high note following a 2-0 home win against Ifeanyi Ubah. Heartland beat El-kanemi Warriors 2-1 at the Dan Anyiam Stadium with Fortune Omoniwari and Emeka Ogbugh getting the goals for the hosts.

The game between Warri Wolves and FC Taraba was postponed till today, Monday following a heavy downpour which left the Warri City Stadium pitch waterlogged.
